1. Console Gaming
2. The ComputerMy gaming experience started in old "Coin Op" arcades. My family did not have the funds for game systems for quite some time. I would have to head over
to friends homes to play on their intellivision or atari game systems. When Nintendo
came around I would have to do the same, head on over to a friends house to get a chance to play. I remember heading to my local family owned video rental store

to rent nintendo games to play on my friends game systems. At one point I had
a neighbor on my left that had a Nintendo and a neighbor on my right that had a
Sega Genesis. I was in "seventh heaven". Shortly after the Nintendo Entertainment System was released the Nintendo GameBoy was announced.
I was so excited. I first found out about the GameBoy at my local small town movie theater.

They were handing out Nintendo branded flyers about Nintendo products.
This was for the movie "The Wizard".

As cheesy as it is it still brings back fond memories to this day. I read over that flyer back and forth. My parents could
never afford a Nintendo, let alone a GameBoy. I knew it was not going to be an option for me, just as all the other consoles of the time had not been. That Christmas
I was suprised to find a GameBoy

and two games ( Tetris and Super Mario Land ).

It turned out that my father had paid 2 dollars for two seperate raffle entries for
a GameBoy and two games. He obviously won that raffle I was over the moon. I went through eight batteries that day just so I could keep playing. I would slowly
add games to my collection over the following few years. Most of the games I played were borrowed from friends or rented from the local video rental store. My
parents never did buy a game console for me or my brother. If we wanted one of those we would have to find a way to obtain one on our own.
It would be between the age of 13 and 14 (1994ish) that I would receive a life changing gift. My parents had approached me about my interest in owning and
maintaining a car. I really had no interest in owning or maintaining a car. They had assumed that, like most teens, I would want to cruise around town and have
some freedom. I did not. I didn't want the pain of paying for gas, insurance and upkeep. I didnt want a job for the sole purpose of maintaining the expences of
vehichle ownership. So after having the horror of being offered what other kids would have loved to have, I started brainstorming. I had always had an interest in
technology. I had a couple of friends whos parents had the money for a computer. So I wondered, what if we had a "family" computer. I could get an education in
computers and have some fun while I was at it. The family would, of course, have access to the computer as well. So I pitched the idea to my mother. She said
she would think about it and discuss it with my father. Well, "that was it", I thought. There would be no chance of that happening. Later that night my mother
approached me and told me she had talked to my father. At this point I had already put any thought of a computer into the abyss of my memory to be forgotten forever
There was no sense in getting worked up about something that was not to be. But she then told me that they thought a "family" computer was a great idea and that
they would look at finances and see what they could do and when. Less than a week later my mother walked through the door with a brand new "Packard Bell" computer box.
